Somewhere out there
Past the asphalt glare
Lies miles of a new horizon
Those city streets
Have got to beat
This town that there's no surprise in
I've given the wrong impression
Dotted my Ts and mixed metaphors
Everywhere I go
There's one thing I know
Gotta find something worth fighting for
Someday I'll make my way
To parts where I can say
I feel like I belong here
I think I'm gonna stay
I'll roam each new district
To see what makes them tick
I'll ride the subway crosstown
And race across the bricks
And late at night
It's kinda trite
But I hear the two A.M. train
Reminding me
Where I could be
Like anywhere not quite so plain
I've been careless on occasion
Let go of a fair few red balloons
Gotten out of line
Every single time
I get up again before too soon
Someday I'll make my way
To parts where I can say
I feel like I belong here
I think I'm gonna stay
I've got way too many dreams
But they're only building steam
And when I watch the sky
There's a feeling deep inside of me
I'll never say die
That's no way to be
I took a walk
Just down the block
Sat gazing at power towers
I'll find a way
Can't spend my days
Waiting for my finest hour
I've gone bobbing for bad apples
I've ditched out on dates and danced alone
Tried life on for size
Maybe I'll get wise
When I have a place that feels like home
Someday I'll make my way
To parts where I can say
I feel like I belong here
I think I'm gonna stay
I'll roam each new district
To see what makes them tick
I'll ride the subway crosstown
And race across the bricks
Someday I'll make my way
To parts where I can say
I feel like I belong here
I think I'm gonna stay

I'll hide behind these plastic bangs
That hang across my face so well
No jealousy or hunger pangs
Inside my poly-carbon shell
Must be so nice to be so reckless
You'll pay the price but least you're free
I won't think twice about the Third Law
Don't take no ice for me to freeze
No-one will be harmed by my hands
Won't ever lie or cheat or steal
Could be the best damn surgeon man
Or really anything but real
Maybe one day I'll get an upgrade
To feel the way I'm sure you do
I calculate that's quite unlikely
And hope's a human point of view
Don't dream of sheep whenever I snooze
It's just not what I'm built to do
I'll replicate the things that I lose
So you'll grow old while I'm still new
Must be so nice to be so reckless
You'll pay the price but least you're free
I won't think twice about the Third Law
Don't take no ice for me to freeze
Maybe one day I'll get an upgrade
To feel the way I'm sure you do
I calculate that's quite unlikely
And hope's a human point of view

I've been chasing after pipe dreams
Of a storyline off the screen
Or a lyric lifted from something upbeat
All those scenes and songs that guide me
Seem to come from down inside me
But their writers couldn't spot me on the street
I live my life the way my stereo says to
I eat my steak cooked medium rare
I shape myself the way I want the world to see me
I care too much if anybody else cares
I wanna be your favorite radio station
The one you tune to every night
I'll sing the songs you need to tell you how you're feeling
I'll whisper softly while you turn out the light
Astroturf is always greener
And the stage lights look much cleaner
Than the stars I have to live with in my room
In all the movies, I've been told
That it just takes guts to win gold
And if I'm loud enough, I'll be in tune
Just wait until the denouement
I'll get the things I'm s'posed to want
But before then I shouldn't be so sure
I'll show you I'm the leading man
Have happy endings on demand
'Cause after all, how could I ask for more?
I live my life the way my stereo says to
I eat my steak cooked medium rare
I shape myself the way I want the world to see me
I care too much if anybody else cares
I wanna be your favorite radio station
The one you tune to every night
I'll sing the songs you need to tell you how you're feeling
I'll whisper softly while you turn out the light
